Better Communal Infrastructure in Žabljak with Support from the Kingdom of Norway

Now 14 families with more than 40 members in Vučedolska Street gained access to the sewerage network, which will contribute to the improvement of living conditions for 3,500 inhabitants of Žabljak.

The communal infrastructure in the Municipality of Žabljak was improved with the support of the Kingdom of Norway through the project "Norway for you - Montenegro", through the construction of a sewerage network in Vučedolska Street.

Improving wastewater management is one of the priorities of the Municipality of Žabljak, so the modernization of this system has been going on for a long time, especially since 2013, when a wastewater treatment plant was built in Žabljak. The expansion of the sewerage network reduces the use of septic tanks, which pose an environmental danger. By working on this type of infrastructure, most of the main streets in the city center are connected to the sewerage network. In this municipality, the emphasis is currently on the construction of sewerage in side streets, in order to operate the wastewater treatment plant at full capacity, as well as the coverage of the entire municipal area with the sewerage network.

Thanks to the support of the Kingdom of Norway, 14 families with more than 40 members in Vučedolska Street gained access to the sewerage network, which will contribute to the improvement of living conditions for 3,500 inhabitants of Žabljak, as well as tourists who stay here.

"I am pleased that we have successfully completed this very important project for the Municipality of Žabljak, which significantly improves the quality of public infrastructure in our town. I use this opportunity to thank the Kingdom of Norway, the UNOPS Office for their support, but also all those with whom we cooperated during the implementation of this project," says the Mayor of Žabljak Veselin Vukićević.

Through the "Norway for you - Montenegro" Project, the Kingdom of Norway funded this project with USD 26,604, while the Municipality of Žabljak co-funded with USD 3,079.

"As part of the call for the development of local infrastructure, we have selected seven projects that will very concretely improve the quality of life in local communities in less developed areas of Montenegro. One of our priority areas was wastewater management, so today in Žabljak we have tangible results through the development of communal infrastructure," said the "Norway for you - Montenegro" Project Manager Armen Čekić.
